Education and Experience

Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies, or related fields; AND one-year full-time work experience as an urban planner. Graduate training in fields basic to urban planning is preferred but not required and will not be substituted for required work experience.

Knowledge and Abilities

Must be knowledgeable in the principles and techniques of municipal zoning and planning, CEQA, state zoning, and planning laws, and possess a basic understanding of the due process, acceptable research techniques, statistical analysis, and urban design concepts. Must communicate effectively both in verbal and written form and possess graphic/mapping skills. Must demonstrate the ability to problem-solve and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public, elected officials, and agency personnel.

Skills

Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.  Working knowledge of CADs, Arc View, and other standard graphic software, is highly desirable.

License

Must have and maintain a California Driver's License, Class C.
