Recruitment Type: Open certification
Location: Field Elementary
Hours: 3 hours per day, 5 days per week when school is in session.
Salary is based on actual hours worked.
This is an hourly assignment with no rights to permanency.
Assigned for specialized defined-term Categorical Funding project. Under direction of the Principal and in collaboration with classroom teachers.
Assists in planning and conduct of behavioral guidance activities for students in grades one through six on an elementary school campus at recess, during class time, and/or during after-school leisure time. Work hours are flexible.- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS
Education: Must possess a secondary (i.e., high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED).
Experience: Recent paid or volunteer experience involving organized activities with elementary school children.
Special Licenses, Certifications, Language Skills:
As required by California Education Codes and Health & Safety Codes, school staff working with children must be free of infectious tuberculosis (TB). Proof of current TB screening must be presented prior to employment and renewed every 4 years thereafter.
Possession of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certificates from approved training program is desirable.
The ability to read, write and speak a language, in addition to English is desirableREQUIRED DOCUMENTS- High school diploma or GED equivalent (or higher). Applicants must upload a photo of high school diploma or transcripts showing awarded diploma, GED, or degree.

First Aid and CPR card must be submitted with the online application, OR must be obtained and submitted to Human Resources within 60 calendar days from date of hire.- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:
- Assists with supervising students on playground and in designated sites to optimize good student behavior.
- Drafts plans for creational activities of elementary-age children in grades one through six.
- Supervises students at recess times.
- May supervise adult Noon Aides during recess times.
- Plans activities and monitors students to reduce inappropriate behavior.
- Prevents students from fighting, climbing fences, leaving school grounds, littering, making graffiti, using inappropriate language; applies disciplinary measures in accordance with school standards, such as time outs, or recommendations to the Principal for detention or in-school suspension.
- Assists students individually and in small groups to encourage self-esteem.
- Assists students individually and in small groups regarding behavior and related topics, such as peer relationships and playground behavior, using play, discussion and educational formats; schedules occasional short meetings for this purpose.
- Assists referred students on an individual basis regarding occasional or chronic classroom and playground behavior.
- Provides positive behavior incentives to students to encourage self-discipline.
- Meets with Principal, teachers, parents and other staff as requested to provide observations of student behaviors.
- At the request of Principal, contacts outside agencies to seek referrals for parents of students with chronic misbehavior.
- May tutor students in homework assignments as needed.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Requires:- Knowledge of elementary-age child behavior and positive behavior modification techniques
- Ability to assist children in recreational sports participation and to develop game skills and exercise
- Knowledge of safety practices, sportsmanship, game rules and standards, and team participation
- Ability to deal with student misbehavior appropriately in accordance with direction of Principal
- Under direction of Principal, ability to contact and refer parents to appropriate outside agencies
- Sensitivity to issues of ethnicity and gender
- Ability to follow direction of the Principal and collaborate with staff, parents and the community;
- First aid and CPR training is desirable.
