The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking a highly motivated, well-skilled, service-oriented individual to provide clerical and customer assistance as a Receptionist. We currently have one vacant position for this job classification. Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates preferred.
Permanent LACOE employees or former employees on a LACOE re-remployment list are only eligible to participate in this selection process.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:- Organizational units, functions, and key personnel
- General office practices, procedures and equipment
- Telephone techniques and etiquette
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Applicable sections of State, Education Code and other applicable laws pertaining to the handling and communication of confidential and secure information
- Physical and electronic filing and record-keeping systems and techniques
- Basic Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications
- Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
- Bilingual Communication – Speaking, reading, writing in a second language
- Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers
- Handling Conflict – Managing interpersonally strained situations
- Professional Impact – Presenting self as a positive representative of the organization
- Valuing Diversity - Appreciating the benefits of varied backgrounds and cultures in the workplace.
- Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience: One year of clerical work, working directly with the public.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites may be required.- Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above, will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above, will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of Broad Based computer-based examinations (Data Entry, MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint 2010), bilingual Spanish examination (optional), and the oral interview. Candidates must pass each examination part before advancing to the next part of the examination process.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272).
