- Description
- Performs complex and responsible clerical, secretarial, and administrative duties for the principal of an elementary school or other District administrator. Clerical duties require the ability to perform skilled typing/keyboarding using a standard computer keyboard.
Some positions in this classification may require bilingual skills in Armenian or Spanish (speak, read, and write).
VACANCIES: Various opportunities exist for permanent and substitute (temporary) assignments.
Positions may be at various locations throughout the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta, or Montrose). Permanent positions are 8 hours per day, 10.5 months per year, and include full benefits.

-Reviews, logs, determines priority, and routes correspondence.
-Composes and prepares correspondence independently.
-Acts as receptionist, screens calls and visitors, and refers inquiries, as appropriate.
-Explains District policies and procedures in person or by phone; assists students, parents, and teachers by providing information.
-Uses computer to type a variety of materials such as charts, memoranda, requisitions, letters and reports.
-Makes appointments and arranges conferences and meetings.
-Relieves supervisor of routine personnel, budget, and payroll functions; orders, receives, and stores a variety of supplies.
-Initiates and maintains a variety of files and records of information such as payroll, budget and student enrollment, progress, transfers, attendance, and accidents.
-Maintains manuals and updates resource materials.
-May serve as secretary to a committee preparing the agenda and taking minutes of meetings.
-May provide technical or functional supervision to general clerical positions.

Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Two years of recent experience in increasingly responsible and complex clerical work.
Some positions in this classification may require bilingual skills in Armenian or Spanish (speak, read, write).
Typing Certificate: Ability to type/keyboard input accurately at a speed not less than 50 net words per minute with minimum 80% accuracy.
License or Certificate: Possession of a Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate within three months of employment.
Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in an additional language.
TYPING CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Applicants for positions that require keyboarding skills must submit a typing certificate to demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements of the position. A copy of the certificate must be scanned and attached to the on-line employment application. Applications without a valid typing certificate are disqualified. It is the responsibility of the applicants to review their certificates to ensure the proper test was completed and that complete information with valid results are included on the certificate.
Certificates are subject to verification. Acceptable agencies are a government agency, an employment agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system. Self-administered Internet (on-line) test scores and certificates are not acceptable. Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or test results form and must clearly state the following:
1. Name of issuing agency and official emblem.
2. Address and telephone number of agency.
3. Name of applicant.
4. Date of test. The test must be dated within two years of the application filing date. Certificates older than two years are not accepted.
5. Gross typing speed; net typing speed; and number of errors or percentage of accuracy.
6. Duration of test in minutes.
7. Name and signature of person certifying the results.

A review of applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination may include a written test, and/or a technical project, and will include a qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process.
Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position. New employees start at the first step. For permanent employees, the last step (maximum) is generally reached after 7 1/2 years of successful job performance. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only.
Probationary Period: 130 days of paid service.
