DESCRIPTION

The City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services is recruiting for a full-time Community Program Specialist I to serve as the Coordinated Entry Operations Assistant in the Human Services Bureau. Reporting to the Homeless Services Administrative Coordinator (Community Program Specialist IV), this position will serve as a liaison to Coordinated Entry System partners to strengthen system-wide and regional coordination of homeless services. This position is located at the Multi-Service Center, 1301 West 12th Street, Long Beach, CA 90813.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Creates and maintains the Coordinated Entry database of clients seeking permanent housing;
  • Facilitates the housing prioritization process and matches clients to eligible housing opportunities;
  • Collects and analyzes client feedback on the Coordinated Entry matching process;
  • Analyzes and interprets program data to identify potential system barriers;
  • Prepares and analyzes reports to assess the accuracy of program data entry into the Homeless Management Information System;
  • Collaborates with Coordinated Entry agency staff to improve quality management;
  • Coordinates with program partners to provide initial, on-going, and annual trainings, including those related to Coordinated Entry System policies and procedures;
  • Facilitates Coordinated Entry case conferencing and meetings as needed for Long Beach Continuum of Care partner agencies;
  • Attends Service Plan Area 8 Coordinate Entry meetings to coordinate with regional partners; and, 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Work, or a closely related field. (Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferment required. Experience managing and analyzing high volumes of data may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis.)
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license. (Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months of employment if out of state. DMV H6 10-year driver history printout required during onboarding).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Work, or a closely related field (Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferment required.);
  • Experience managing and analyzing high volumes of data;
  • Experience working with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS);
  • Bilingual Skills (Spanish).

  • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail;
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a comprehensive and concise manner;
  • Strong understanding of public health, homeless services, and related social programs in the Greater Los Angeles Area;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and office productivity software (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
