About the Position: This position is for a civilian employee assigned to the Los Angeles City (City) Controller’s Office Fraud, Waste & Abuse Unit.  Special Investigators perform proactive approach and data-mining to identify potential fraud, waste and abuse of City resources, and respond to allegations of fraud, waste and abuse within City government. 

Possible Job Duties: fraud risk assessments; data analytics; reconstruction of financial or other records; providing training; investigatory activities including case planning, interviews, documenting evidence, developing conclusions and drafting reports recommending a course of action.

Requirements: Candidates must possess and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity in both official and personal matters.  Must be proactive and enthusiastic in assessing City operations for identifying potential fraud, abuse, or waste of City funds, and have knowledge of organizational management in government and/or private sector business.  A bachelor’s degree is required; preferably in the areas of accounting, finance, law, criminal justice, or a similar related field of study and an advanced degree and/or professional designation (e.g., CPA, CIA, CFE) is highly desirable.  At least three years of paid full-time experience as an investigator of fraud, waste, and abuse is required.  Experience in a governmental organization, performing internal investigations of alleged fraud, waste, and abuse is also highly desirable.
