The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking highly qualified, team-oriented, and customer-focused individuals who can strategize with managers in the Accounting and Budget Development department to recommend budgeting solutions for various organizational efforts.
Under general direction, the Budget Analyst plans, organizes, and coordinates activities related to the compilation, evaluation and reporting of revenue in relation to actual and planned expenditures.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:- Accounting principles, practices and procedures
- Revenue and expenditure projection and analysis
- Financial reporting methods
- Cost analysis methods
- Research, evaluation, and assessment practices
- Federal, state, and local laws and related mandates pertaining to budgeting, accounting, financial reporting
- Microsoft Office Suite and computer database software
- Automated accounting systems such as PeopleSoft applications
- Analyzing & Interpreting Data – Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative data
- Critical Thinking – Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications
- Attention to Detail – Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products
- Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
- Informing – Proactively obtaining and sharing information
- Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers
- Teamwork – Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals
- Allocating Resources – Prioritizing the use of fiscal and material resources to maximize organizational performance
- Education: A Bachelor's degree with major coursework in business administration, public administration, accounting, or a field related to the knowledge and abilities requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Three years of directly related experience in professional level accounting, financial forecasting, budget development and budgetary analysis.- Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above, will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Scored Quesionnaire, a Written Exam, a Performance Exam, and/or a Structured Interview.
