QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: basic principles and practices of engineering, mapping, drafting, hydraulics and schematics; preparation of construction plans; public works construction methods and inspection techniques; and field survey methods and equipment. Skills and Abilities: Ability to research and conduct a variety of studies and projects in the area of Public Works Engineering; learn and apply engineering principles and practices; collect, analyze and summarize data; prepare maps, charts and illustrations; effective oral and written communication skills; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively and effectively with employees and the public. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and GIS applications is highly desirable. Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by any combination of training and experience necessary for the position.  A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is through courses in drafting plus one year of experience in engineering drafting or field survey work or completion of two years in an accredited college with a specialization in engineering. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s license.
