The Public Works Department is made up of over 200 employees who provide service to our residents, businesses, and other City departments to improve and maintain the City’s streets, sidewalks, landscaping, traffic, sewers, and water system.

The Public Works Department has six divisions: Administration, Engineering, Sanitation Services, Water Operations, Street Operations and Streetscape. Public Works is seeking to hire an Administrative Analyst for the Operation Divisions.

The Administrative Analysts in the Public Works Department are key positions that have an active role in the analysis and reporting of data; research and interpret data impacting key performance indicators; and manage special projects to achieve Public Works objectives.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills would be acceptable.   A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

A Bachelor's Degree from a college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and at least one (1) year of related professional experience; or two (2) years of related college course work and four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative or analytical experience.
 
The ideal candidate will:

  • Be proficient in MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access);
  • Have the ability to monitor and track divisional workloads and projects, identify issues and trends, and make recommendations to ensure accurate and efficient operations;
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform research, and analyze and communicate data; 
  • Exercise sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills; 
  • Be an effective communicator with the ability to convey clear and succinct messages verbally and in writing;
  • Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Be familiar with state legislation as it pertains to solid waste and recycling such as AB939, AB1826, AB341 and SB 1383 is a plus;
  • Have experience in Solid Waste, recycling, organics, and/or development and administration of grants.
