This posting is to establish an Eligibility List as well as fill one (1) vacancy at Washington Middle School for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 11 months per year.    

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
 
Performs a wide variety of clerical duties; serves as secretary without shorthand skills; functionally supervises clerical/student personnel; provides clerical support for multiple supervisors; assists in coordinating testing, transfer and other programs; may write and speak a language in addition to English.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Education:  Must possess a secondary (i.e. high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED). College courses in office management, secretarial science, business or other related fields is desirable.

Experience:  Equivalent to two (2) years of full-time clerical experience. Thirty (30) semester units of college courses with a major in secretarial science, business, office management or other related field may be substituted on a prorated basis for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

  • If substituting education for part of the required experience, transcripts MUST be attached showing completion of thirty (30) semester units of college courses with a major in secretarial science, business, office management or other related field.  Thirty (30) semester units may be substituted on a pro-rated basis for up to one (1) year of clerical experience.
A valid Class C California Driver License may be required; the ability to read, write and speak a language in addition to English, especially Spanish or Armenian, is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition, an incumbent in this class may be asked to write a note in Spanish or Armenian, as well as translate materials and speak the second language. However, the ability to speak, read and write a language in addition to English is desirable but not required.

APPOINTMENT
 
Employees who receive a regular appointment to the class must serve a probationary period of one hundred and thirty (130) days of paid service. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance; failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination without right of appeal.

Appointed candidate shall start at Step 1.  Upon completion of 130 days probation and satisfactory evaluation, employee shall be advanced to Step 2.  All other step advancement is granted each year after probationary period up to the maximum listed salary.  Monthly rates listed on PUSD’s Salary Schedules and/or job bulletins reflect full-time appointment, calculated at eight (8) hours per day.  Pay is prorated based on actual hours worked.
