The Position

We will begin accepting applications for this position starting November 4, 2021. 

The Business, Facilities and Operations Division  is now accepting applications for Accounting Specialist I/II. The Accounting Specialist I/II will distribute revenue from Federal, State, and/to local agencies to school districts within Santa Clara County in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; will perform highly responsible technical accounting functions in the maintenance, reporting, report generation, verification and reconciliation of specialized accounting and payroll records, reports and/or services, and will perform related duties as assigned.

Accounting Specialist I and Accounting Specialist II serve as an alternate class series. Persons may be initially employed in either level depending on their qualifications. Please review the job description for distinguishing characteristics.

This position is full-time, and has a work year of 12 months/ 261 days/ 8 hours per day.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to:

Accounting Specialist I:

  • Education: Associates degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting, budgeting, business law or a related field AND
  • Experience:  one year experience in public accounting, finance or fiscal record-keeping
Accounting Specialist II:
  • Education: Associates degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting, budgeting, business law or a related field AND 
  • Experience:  two years of experience equivalent to the Accounting Specialist I

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

Assessments and interviews will take place virtually via Zoom Meetings. Our procedures reflect social distancing guidelines of the Santa Clara County Office of Public Health. Please email the Recruitment Contact listed on job postings if you have any questions.

Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam, tentatively scheduled for November 19, 2021. Candidates who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in a panel interview with subject matter experts, tentatively scheduled for December 1, 2021. Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list. Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities, tentatively scheduled for the week of December 6, 2021. Candidates will be invited over email to participate in examination and selection steps, using the email supplied within their Governmentjobs.com applications, or as updated by candidates in their Governmentjobs.com master profiles.
