Vacancy Information
This is to establish an eligibility list for the upcoming school year as well as fill one (1) current vacancy at Sierra Madre Middle School at 75% - 6 hours/day, 5 days/week, 10 months/year.  Monthly employees working 75% or higher shall qualify for district-contributed health benefits.

Definition:
 
Performs a variety of clerical duties; distributes, checks and processes mail, various forms and applications; provides information on and clerical support for school/program activities; and may be asked to read, speak and write a language in addition to English.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Education: Must possess a secondary (i.e. high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED)

Experience: Experience in performing clerical work.

SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS
Certain positions may require the possession of a valid Class C California Drivers' License. The ability to speak, read and write a language in both English and Spanish is required. You may be required to obtain a First Aid Certificate and complete a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course upon getting hired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties of this class include, but are not limited to:

  • Types a variety of materials; serves as receptionist making appointments, answering questions, and taking messages
  • Maintains filing systems
  • Operates office machines
  • Proofreads; compiles data
  • Provides direction to students, volunteers, etc., on office procedures
  • Arranges for repairs, duplicating services, and computer printouts.
  • Assists parents and students in registering for school
  • Establishes student files
  • Posts information onto records
  • Submits records to data processing
  • Performs first aid
  • Issues medication to students
  • Coordinates various activities such as the assignment of student lockers, obtaining referees, securing medical coverage for sporting events, coordinating transportation services
  • Issues, receives and reviews applications for participation in various programs
  • Issues lunch tickets and obtains cafeteria lunch count
  • Issues student passes and call slips
  • Determines need for supplies, prepares requisitions; locates prices
  • Keeps track of expenditures and available funds in budgeted accounts
  • Receives and distributes materials
  • Maintains payroll records including employees' sick and vacation balances
  • Obtains family/income data and computes child care fees
  • Collects money for various activities
  • Completes various accounting forms
  • Calculates costs for Civic Center Permits and prepares billings
  • Prepares personnel requisitions;
  • Compiles data for various reports such as injury, accident, bus service, attendance 
  • Performs other related duties
In addition, a person in this class may be asked to write a note in a language in addition to English as well as translate materials and speak a second language. However, the ability to speak, read and write a second language in addition to English is desirable but not required.

Appointment:

Employees who receive a regular appointment to the class must serve a probationary period of one hundred and thirty (130) days of paid service. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance; failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination without right of appeal to the Human Resources department.

Pay is based on actual hours worked.  Salary indicated on the job bulletin reflect full-time appointment, calculated at eight (8) hours per day.
