The City of San Pablo is looking for two (2) dynamic, team-oriented, well-experienced Administrative Clerks for its Public Works Department and City Manager’s Office.  San Pablo has a long-standing reputation for providing superior customer service to residents, businesses and visitors (and was recognized as a Bay Area Top Workplace in 2019.).  These characteristics, combined with outstanding staff in all departments, has been a hallmark of success for this high-performance organization.  The Public Works Division is responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of City infrastructure, design and construction of new or improved public facilities; managing a safe and efficient Citywide transportation network; and the expedient review of work in the right of way and development projects in accordance with the San Pablo Municipal Code, ordinances, and standards. Engineering staff, specifically, is responsible for providing assistance and guidance to the general public and developers in regard to requirements and regulations for street, sidewalk, storm drainage, paving, grading, and other capital improvements. The City Manager’s Office is responsible for coordinating and administering various functions of the city government as directed by the city council. The department oversees the day-to-day operations of the city and supports the city manager in implementation of city council policy. The City Manager’s Office also includes the Human Resources function under the direction of the Human Resources Manager.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

About the positionThe incumbent of this position assists the general public and city staff on the telephone, or in person, by providing information on departmental and assigned program policies and procedures. The incumbent will also perform a wide variety of clerical work including filing, billing, reviewing, and reconciling statistical information related to the department or functions assigned. A successful Administrative Clerk should have good administrative, technical, and communication skills to convey information to other departments, divisions and higher authorities as well as review organizational procedures and analysis to improve efficiency.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description page of the City’s website.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Experience and Training: An ideal candidate must have the ability to work independently and prioritize work projects, verify and check files and data, and research and resolve discrepancies. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
 
Administrative Clerk I – Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. One year of general office experience is desirable. 
 
Administrative Clerk II - Two years of responsible experience similar to Administrative Clerk I with the City of San Pablo and equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. 
 
Required license and certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
