DUAL CERTIFICATION:
Under Dual Certification,  the resulting eligibility list shall consist of promotional and open competitive eligibles in one (1) merged list after granting service credit to promotional candidates.   No veterans' credits will be granted in an open and promotional examination (with dual certification).    (LUSD PC Rules 50.200.7)

ANTICIPATED SELECTION PROCESS (WHICH MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE):
The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut off) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION: The District reserves the right to utilize a training and experience evaluation. Applicant materials will be competitively reviewed and those candidates whose qualifications most closely meet the District's needs will be invited to participate in the technical oral exam panel (Pass/Fail).

PERFORMANCE WRITTEN EXAMINATION: The performance written examination portion of the test may have multiple steps which may be administered on different days (50% of total score).

ORAL EXAMINATION: The oral examination portion of the test may have multiple steps which may be administered on different days (50% of total score).

PARTICIPATION IN ALL PORTIONS OF THE EXAMINATION PROCESS IS BY OFFICIAL INVITATION ONLY. Candidates who do not participate and successfully pass all parts of the examination process will not be considered for the position.

POSITION DETAILS AND DUTIES:
FULL-TIME: EIGHT (8) HOURS PER DAY; TWELVE (12) MONTHS PER YEAR.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or administrator, provide varied and complex, specialized secretarial support services to relieve the administrator of administrative and clerical detail; plan, coordinate and organize office activities and coordinate flow of communications for the assigned supervisor; train and review work of personnel.

This position is designated as staff and reports directly to an assigned supervisor/administrator.

Initial Qualifications

Your application must provide sufficient information that demonstrates your possession of the initial qualifications including providing any transcripts, certifications, and documents listed below.  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from high school OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible secretarial experience, preferably in an educational setting, which shows evidence of the ability to assist in coordinating complex projects and office activities and initiatives which have District, Agency, or organizational-wide impact is required. 
  • Six (6) months of experience working with legal documents or complaints is required.
  • Computer experience, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management programs is required.
  • Some college-level course work, training, or certification directly relevant to the job is desirable and preference consideration may be rewarded to applicants demonstrating this education and continuous learning.  

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid California Class C Driver's license & availability of private transportation.
  • Pass all job-related test parts.
  • Some positions may require the ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently.
  • Completion of an assigned administrative assistant training program within the first year of work within this classification, with evidence that skills taught from the training program are used on the job.
  • Official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history record is REQUIRED UPON EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history must be dated within the last thirty (30) days of the employment processing period. A DMV record obtained via the internet or online will NOT be accepted.

 EXAMINATION PROCESS:
 Please note that the District reserves the right to add, eliminate or adjust testing steps and/or information on the posting at any time during the position posting and testing process. The process may include, but is not limited to, further testing inclusive of on-the-job testing, recruitment and recruitment extensions, which may be for less than fifteen (15) days after the certification of an eligibility list. As a result, there may be adjustments if reasonable or necessary.
 
 REVIEW PROCESS:
 If you would like to review your examination after receiving your test results notice, you must submit the "Examination Review Form" to Classified Personnel within seven (7) working days of the result notice date. You may obtain the "Examination Review Form" from the Classified Personnel department. It is the responsibility of the job applicant to submit the "Examination Review Form" within the designated time frame. If the requirements for the examination review are met, Classified Personnel will schedule an appointment for the review.
 
 ELIGIBILITY LIST EXPIRATION:
 Candidates who are successful in all of the screening and testing process will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one (1) year or expire sooner than one (1) year. If an eligible candidate successfully tests for the same classification before the current eligibility list expires, the eligibility lists will merge and the eligible's most recent examination score will be applied. It is the responsibility of each eligible to know his/her eligibility list status. For questions about eligibility list status, please contact the Classified Personnel department.
 
 LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
 It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure that all licenses and certifications required for this position are up-to-date to remain in the position.
