DEFINITION

Field of Competition: Open certification to establish an Eligibility List for the current and/or upcoming school year and to fill one (1) vacancy at John Muir High School.


Under general supervision of assigned admission administrator, researches financial aid   opportunities and post-secondary admission requirements; directs and provides guidance to  students and parents regarding financial aid and applications to post-secondary institutions;  collects data and prepares reports in relation to assigned program(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Education:  
Graduation from a post-secondary academic institution with an Associate degree or higher,  preferably in business administration, public administration, English, or communications is required.  

Experience:
Three (3) years of full-time paid experience working at a financial aid administration and/or college or career office, including interacting with the post-secondary admission process.  Experience with financial aid systems is desirable but not required.  

Equivalency clause:  
Graduation with a four-year degree may substitute for two (2) of the required three (3) years of experience. Additional years of experience cannot substitute for the required education.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct outreach operations, targeting parents and students
2. Provide students with support in regards to various applications for post-secondary   education admission and funding
3. Act as a liaison between students, parents, and post-secondary academic institutions
4. Compile and maintain data and information using various database management systems  
5. Prepare various computerized reports for dissemination
6. Assist with coordination of special events, including college fair and career exploration visits
7. Researcher and identify internship opportunities for students
8. Act as a liaison between post-secondary academic institutions and the high school   campus(es), scheduling representative visits and hosting college-related seminars  
9. Maintain college and career resource center(s) on campuses
10. Plan and deliver workshops for students and parents regarding federal and state  financial aid
11. Perform clerical tasks related to assigned duties, including data input, filing, and   scanning at assigned locations
12. Respond to inquiries from students and parents regarding financial aid applications for   admissions to post-secondary academic institutions
13. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and training as directed by the assigned   supervisor
14. Act as a lead and resource personnel for support bargaining unit level staff
15. Obtain, evaluate, and disseminate education, occupational (labor market data), and   technical literature for students, families, and staff
16. Provide support for administrators as needed
17. Perform other related duties as assigned

6. Keep up-to-date with changes in federal and state financial aid programs

9. Conduct research independently
10. Understand laws and regulations concerning post-secondary academic institution   accreditation
11. Use a multi-line phone system, scanner, and email
12. Utilize database management systems
13. Input, manipulate, and configure data in various forms and systems
14. Conduct data analysis
15. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
16. Exercise patience when dealing with students, parents, and related agencies
17. Maintain sensitivity to ethnic, religious, and sexual differences


Appointed candidate shall start at Step 1.  Upon completion of 130 days probation and satisfactory evaluation, employee shall be advanced to Step 2.  All other step advancement is granted each year after probationary period up to the maximum listed salary.
