Field of Competition: Open certification to fill 1 vacancy within the Human Resources department as well as establish an Eligibility List for the current and/or upcoming school year.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES


Performs a wide variety of complex Classified Personnel Office activities such as employee processing data entry into the Human Resource System (HRS), trouble shooting Human Resource/payroll issues, etc.; develops and maintains files and materials as required by policies, rules and legal regulations; and provides back-up to other Classified Personnel Technicians.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The primary duties of a position in this class are related to the many sometimes sensitive processes involved in the employment of classified employees.  Employees assigned to the class work independently with technical and policy assistance provided by supervisors and other management personnel.

The position of Classified Personnel Technician is distinguished from Senior Personnel Clerk in that incumbents in this class perform specialized and complex technical personnel management activities, including personnel selection, processing and the input of data into the Human Resources and Payroll data systems, as well as interacting directly with the Los Angles County Office of Education.  The Senior Personnel Clerk is a normally assigned general personnel program responsibilities involving a limited variety and scope of functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Education:               Must possess a secondary (i.e., high school) school diploma or its equivalent (GED), including the completion of courses and seminars in human resources management and  administration, the Human Resource data system and related courses.  Possession of an AA degree highly desirable.

Experience:             Equivalent to four (4) years of increasingly responsible full-time clerical experience; one (1) year of which should include complex confidential data entry, data manipulation and management functions and responsibilities.  Additional experience working in a Human Resource/ Personnel Management Office, particularly in a public school environment, is highly desirable.

 SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

                                 A valid Class C California Driver's License, or alternative means of transportation, may be required; the ability to read, write and speak a language, in addition to English, such as Spanish or Armenian, is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties of this class include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conducts classified personnel management activities as directed 
  • Reviews and processes applications for unclassified employment 
  • Receives and acts upon personnel requisitions 
  • Coordinates the completion of pre-employment forms and coordinates selection interview schedules
  • Assists/coordinates activities of various personnel programs; 
  • Answers telephones and assists with employment information; 
  • Types a variety of materials; 
  • Establishes and maintains filing and record keeping systems 
  • Compiles information and maintains logs; 
  • Composes correspondence; 
  • Maintains communications with district staff members, administrators, supervisors and employment candidates 
  • Enters complex data into the Human Resources data system 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Skills in:  

  • Operating a variety of office equipment, personal computers, faxes, copiers, and Live-Scan equipment;

APPOINTMENT

Employees who receive a regular appointment to the class must serve a probationary period of one hundred and thirty (130) days of paid service.  During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance; failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination without right of appeal to the Human Resources Department.


Salary Information:  Appointed candidate shall start at Step 1.  Upon completion of 130 days probation and satisfactory evaluation, employee shall be advanced to Step 2.  All other step advancement is granted each year after probationary period up to the maximum listed salary.  Monthly rates listed reflect full-time appointment, calculated at eight (8) hours per day.  Pay is prorated based on actual hours worked. Salary Information:
