The Redondo Beach Housing Authority administers two programs for the city: The Section 8 Rent Assistant Program and The Landlord/Tenant Fair Housing Program. Both programs are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which is a branch of the federal government..

This position under direction of the Housing Supervisor is responsible for performing paraprofessional duties. This position plans, promotes, implements, maintains, and/or coordinates programs and special events, evaluates program facility needs, manages accounting operations, and performs other related duties as required. This position performs tasks including program registration, facility rentals, and evaluation of staff and/or volunteers. 


 This is a part-time, at-will position that is not eligible for City benefits. Only those applicants in which the hiring department is interested will receive further contact after application submission.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviews client applications for eligibility of rental assistance
  • Monitors and supervises program participants
  • Resolves concerns between tenant, landlord, and the Housing Authority
  • Confers and collaborates with other social services providers as appropriate
  • Collects and reports participant data to HUD
  • Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of home inspections
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to youth and senior activities, recreational programs, group activities, games and sports; applicable health and safety regulations; first aid; record keeping practices and procedures; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; report writing; basic mathematical computations; applicable sections of the California Vehicle Code.

Ability to: Meet medical and physical employment standards for the classification; read, write, speak and understand English; understand and follow oral and written directions; compose correspondence, brochures, flyers and other informational documents; provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge and interpretive skills may be required; communicate effectively orally and in writing; work overtime as necessary; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and members of the public; legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.

Education and Experience: 

  • Effective leadership skills, creativity, good decision making and exercising appropriate judgment 
  • Ability to teach, and the ability to lead by example are preferred qualities
  •  Must be at least 18 years of age to apply
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License
  • Completion of high school is required, and some college course work a related field is highly desired

SELECTION PROCESS:
