The City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services is recruiting for an unclassified at will full-time Community Program Specialist I to serve as the Communicable Disease Control Program Assistant in the Communicable Disease and Emergency Response Bureau. Reporting to the Communicable Disease Division Officer, this position will provide entry-level grants administration support to the Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control Division. This position is located at the Main Health Facility, 2525 Grand Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815.
Coordinates schedules with program leads for program meetings and trainings;
Prepares meeting agendas, talking points, reports, and other programmatic materials;
Works with program staff to order supplies and coordinate technology for virtual meetings;
Monitors and facilitates staff onboarding, time coding, and personnel actions to ensure timely draw-down of funds and compliance with grant deliverables;
Coordinates with regional hospitals and laboratories to obtain reports and medical information for the communicable disease program;
Coordinates with healthcare partners to schedule infection control site visits;
Assists in preparing provider alerts and other correspondence in line with grant directives;
Maintains an updated list of healthcare and veterinary health partners and programs in line with grant directives; and,
Performs other related duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferral required if qualifying for the position with an academic degree or academic credits. Professional experience managing and analyzing high volumes of data may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Valid motor vehicle operator license. (Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months if out of state). DMV K4 driver license information report printout required during onboarding for California residents.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a closely related field.
Experience in providing administrative support to a public health or emergency response program.
Experience using statistical software (ex. SPSS) and/or other database management systems.
Bilingual skills (Khmer, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese)

Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
