Background: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States; pass a written examination, background investigation including background questionnaire, DMV check, and fingerprinting for the disclosure of any criminal record. Must be able to pass a physical examination including a drug-screen test.
Knowledge of: Community oriented policing services; public relations and customer service practices; complaint resolution techniques; laws and regulations governing the release of information from law enforcement agency records; general laws, principles, codes, regulations, and laws governing law enforcement records management, organization, procedures, and operations of the department; enforcement functions, methods and procedures; office methods and procedures; and report writing.
Ability to: Learn and correctly interpret and apply laws pertinent to vehicle codes and local ordinances; operate the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) terminal to input calls for service for dispatching; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; follow oral and written instructions; comprehend and carry out public safety policies, procedures, and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public, and work within a team-based system; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with the public and staff; exercise initiative and make sound decisions in accordance with established regulations; work independently, without immediate supervision; work a multiline phone system and manage multiple duties at once; present a clean, neat appearance appropriate to successful public contact; utilize quality customer service skills and techniques; and work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Experience: Two years of experience working for a public safety agency performing law enforcement related services and support duties. Dispatch experience with a law enforcement agency and general clerical experience is desired.
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Completion of 60 units of college coursework in Criminal Justice or a related field is desirable. P.O.S.T. Dispatch and 832 P.O.S.T. training and computer experience is highly desirable.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid California Driver License without suspensions prior to and throughout employment is required.
Possession of a valid CPR, AED and First Aid certificate is required within one month of employment.
