Performs varied and increasingly responsible accounting clerical work involved in the preparation of payrolls, accounts payable and receivable; assists in maintaining reviewing and preparing a variety of accounting and financial records and reports.
CURRENT VACANCIES: Two full-time positions (8 hrs/day, 12 mos/yr), with full benefits, in the Financial Services Department, at the Administration Center. The resulting list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies as well as substitute (temporary) positions as needed.
A 10-key (numeric only) data-entry certificate is required for this position. Due to the current circumstances involving the COVID-19 pandemic, agencies that normally issue such certificates may not be in operation. Please see details below regarding this requirement.

Audits, posts, and maintains supportive payroll records involving changes, new employment, terminations, leaves of absence, time cards, W-2 and W-4 forms. Audits, posts, and processes requests for payment in compliance with District accounting procedures. Makes arithmetic computations and checks various statistical and accounting tables and reports. Applies District personnel policies, collective bargaining agreements, and accounting policies and procedures to routine payroll questions. Applies District accounting policies and procedures to routine accounts payable and receivable questions. Codes, verifies extensions, and checks for completeness, accuracy, and correctness. Inputs a variety of accounting information through the use of a computer terminal. Maintains records of expenditures, receivables, and other items. Performs related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Minimum Requirements: Experience: One year of recent experience in keeping or working with financial or statistical records. 10-key Certificate: 140 net keystrokes per minute with minimum 90% accuracy (see information below). Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
10-KEY CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS: 10-KEY (NUMERIC ONLY) DATA-ENTRY: 140 NET KEYSTROKES PER MINUTE WITH MINIMUM 90% ACCURACY. Applicants who are not able to obtain a valid certificate from an outside agency: There are a limited number of agencies that administer tests and issue certificates at this time. The Human Resources Department will administer a test at the start of the examination process. Candidates who are successful on the 10-key test will be allowed to participate in the next step. Applicants who have a valid certificateavailable at the time of submitting an application: Scan and attach certificate to the on-line employment application. Certificates must meet the following conditions: Self-administered on-line/Internet test scores and certificates are not acceptable. Acceptable examples would be from a government agency, an employment/temp agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system. Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or a form and must clearly state the following: 1. Name of issuing agency and official emblem. 2. Address and telephone number of agency. 3. Name of applicant. 4. Date of test. The test must be dated within two years of the application filing date. Certificates older than two years are not accepted. 5. Gross data-entry speed; net speed; and number of errors or percentage of accuracy. 6. Duration of test in minutes. 7. Name and signature of person certifying the results.
Examination Process

Based on that evaluation, a limited number of top-qualifying applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination will include a multiple-choice written test and a qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process. Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position. New employees start at the first step. For permanent employees, the last step (maximum) is generally reached after 7 1/2 years of successful job performance. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only. Probationary Period: 130 days of paid service.
