Continuation of court operations is considered essential for our constitutional form of government for providing due process and protecting the public. All Court employees are considered essential employees because they are needed to deliver the statutorily mandated, time-sensitive and emergency services in times of local, state, and national emergencies.
 
 
ABOUT THE COURT
Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 40 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $855 million. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.


ABOUT THE POSITION 
The IT Desktop Support Analysts serve the Court by providing a variety of difficult and responsible services to assist the court in making effective use of computer hardware, standard and specialized software, peripheral equipment, devices, and other technology. Incumbents are expected to exercise sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities independently and with detailed understanding of court information systems policies, procedures, and customer service issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options upon the final filing date of this bulletin:

OPTION I: One year of experience at the level of a Computer Support Technician II* working for the Los Angeles Superior Court. *Experience at the level of Court Computer Support Technician II is defined as performing work in a comparable class with the same level of responsibility, and requiring the same knowledge, skills, and abilities. Incumbents perform the full range of first and second level problem analysis and resolution of help desk problem calls and workstation support duties; installs, configures, tests, and maintains user computer hardware and software.

OPTION II: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent -AND- Three years of progressively responsible experience in providing hardware, software, and network support.


Note:  Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
 

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
  • A+ Certification or equivalent to industry recognized computer support certification.
  • Experience performing help desk and computer support functions in a large public agency or enterprise.
  • Experience operating computerized help desk systems to process service requests.
  • Experience with VoIP telephone system administration, options terminology, and features.
  • Experience supporting VIP or executive customers.
  • Experience troubleshooting audio visual systems and components.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to present technical information and explain concepts clearly, logically, with precision in oral and written form, and in a manner understood by technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects in a fast-paced IT support environment.

EXAMINATION INFORMATION:
 

PART I: Qualifying evaluation of education, training and experience based upon submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire.

PART II: An online examination, weighted 100%, covering the areas listed below. No person may complete this assessment more than once every 12 months.
  • WORK STYLES ASSESSMENT - Covering deductive reasoning, professional potential, achievement, independence, influence, confidence, optimism, and reliability.
  • TECHNICAL SKILL - Covering computer systems, configuring PC peripherals, hardware, help desk operations, networking, PC and system terminology, security, software, troubleshooting process, user problems.
  • COGNITIVE SKILL - Covering inductive reasoning, and verbal reasoning ability.
