The Department of Development Services has an immediate opening for an unclassified Clerk Typist III to support the Building & Safety Bureau. The successful candidate will be highly organized, self-sufficient, and trustworthy with excellent office skills and attention to detail. The Department of Development Services has approximately 200 employees and includes the Administrative & Financial Services, Building & Safety, Code Enforcement, Housing & Neighborhood Services, and Planning Bureaus. The overall goal of this department is to build a dynamic, safe, and sustainable city that honors its past and embraces the future.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Types forms, memos and correspondence;
Establishes and maintains alpha, numeric and chronological files;
Operates office machines;
Makes mathematical computations;
Interprets and applies departmental policies and procedures;
Acts as receptionist by screening calls, receiving visitors and providing answers to inquiries;
Opens and distributes mail;
Interfaces with other departments, the public, vendors, and outside agencies in person or by telephone; Collects, disperses, deposits, and balances monies;
Creates charts, graphs and forms;
Takes inventory;
May compose correspondence, write desk manuals, compile information, and prepare reports;
May assist with interviewing, hiring, evaluating, or disciplining subordinates;
May train and assign subordinates;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of paid full-time equivalent experience working in an office environment.
A valid California class C driver's license.
Experience working for a public sector agency.
Knowledge of the Legistar software program.
Ability to work during evening hours on an as-needed basis for public and community meetings.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:
Knowledge of appropriate grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Ability to courteously interact with the public in person, on the telephone, or via email.
Ability to maintain confidentiality;
Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
