DESCRIPTION

The City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services is recruiting for a unclassifed permanent full-time Community Program Specialist I to serve as the Coordinated Entry Matcher in the Human Services Bureau. Reporting to a Community Program Specialist IV, this position will serve as a liaison to Continuum of Care partners to ensure people experiencing homelessness are efficiently matched to permanent supportive housing units. This position is located at the Multi-Service Center, 1301 West 12th Street, Long Beach, CA 90813.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Maintains the Long Beach Coordinated Entry system of people experiencing homelessness seeking permanent housing.
  • Facilitates the housing prioritization process and matches clients to eligible housing opportunities
  • Collects and analyzes client feedback on the Coordinated Entry matching process
  • Analyzes and interprets program data to identify potential system barriers
  • Prepares and analyzes reports to assess the accuracy of program data entry into the Homeless Management Information System
  • Collaborates with Coordinated Entry agency staff to improve data quality and program management
  • Coordinates with program partners to provide initial, on-going, and annual trainings including those related to Coordinated Entry policies and procedures
  • Facilitates Coordinated Entry case conferencing and meetings as needed with Long Beach Continuum of Care partner agencies
  • Attends Service Planning Area 8 Coordinated Entry meetings to coordinate with regional partners
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferral required if qualifying for the position with an academic degree. Professional experience managing and analyzing high volumes of data beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. 
  • One year of experience in service delivery to vulnerable populations. 
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license. (Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months if out of state). DMV K4 driver license information report printout required during onboarding for California residents. 
 
Required documents, such as transcripts, degrees and/or certification, must be uploaded to the online application at time of filing. Degrees must indicate the field of study and conferral date on diploma or transcript. Candidates who possess degrees from college or university from outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalency at the time of filing.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field. 
  • Experience working with the Homeless Management Information System 
  • One year of professional experience supporting homeless services programming.

  • Ability to work within deadlines, manage multiple assignments, and set appropriate priorities.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
