DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The primary responsibility of positions in this class is to assist in the development, processing and proofing of data involving the operation of a computer terminal. Procedures on operating terminals, programs, etc., are fairly well established but incumbents can recommend changes. Due to the large amount of data to be processed, duties tend to be repetitive, requiring supervisory involvement primarily when there are problems or program guidelines are being established or changes implemented. An employee in this class must be able to work under deadlines and still demonstrate a high degree of accuracy.

Positions in this class are distinguished from those in the class of Clerk Typist in that a Data Control Clerk must operate a computer terminal requiring knowledge of terminal procedures and a high degree of accuracy whereas a Clerk Typist performs a variety of clerical duties which do not involve computer terminal operations.
