Under general supervision of the Director of Management Services, the Senior Account Clerk performs difficult and complex clerical accounting duties including financial, statistical, billings and inputting. The Senior Account Clerk maintains journals and ledgers; processes and receives accounts payable or related documents and records; prepares bank deposits and reconciles bank statements; processes insurance and utility billings, warrants, business licenses and other payments; reviews and audits all warrant requests prior to computer input; reviews/audits time cards and personnel action forms, process payroll and prepare payroll related reconciliations and reports, analyzes and reconciles data and accounts; assists in year-end closing processes; makes PERS and contract payments; compiles projects; files completed warrants; operates word processing equipment; answers inquiries from the public, vendors and employees; composes correspondence, assists in the operation and maintenance of the computer, and performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of accounting principles and purchasing requirements, data processing applications and usage, cashiering systems, word processing and personal computers including operations and back-up procedures, and general office procedures. Skills/Abilities – Ability to audit and reconcile various financial accounts; compile statistical and financial reports; perform assigned tasks with minimum direction and supervision; make decisions based on questions about available data; follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; work long periods of time with numbers & high accuracy, type accurately and operate various office equipment and software such as Excel, Word, calculators, data processing equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Education and Experience - Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical combination would be: graduation from high school or equivalent and two to three years of increasingly difficult accounting responsibilities preferably in a municipal government setting. An accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Licenses - A valid California Class “C “Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
