The City of Torrance is accepting applications for Administrative Assistant!
The City of Torrance is seeking a responsive and adaptable Administrative Assistant. This position perform a variety of advanced clerical and routine administrative work of a general or specialized nature in support of the operations of an assigned division or departmental function. The current available position is in the Finance Department.
The Position Administrative Assistantsare responsible for office work requiring independent judgment and discretion and may provide training and/or direction to less experienced office support staff. These individuals process various forms such as time and leave records; personnel forms, purchase requisitions, invoices and other forms specific to the operations of an assigned work unit; provide information and assistance to other City staff and the general public regarding assigned programs, policies, and procedures; and serve as point of contact for the department coordinating communication, information, schedules and activities.
The Finance Department The Finance Department is responsible for maintaining the City’s financial health and monitors and reports on the City's financial position. The Finance Department serves as an internal fiscal consultant and works in collaboration with other City departments to meet their service objectives and financial goals. The Department has three (3) divisions, in addition to the Department's general administration.
Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of increasingly responsible clerical and customer service experience.
Specialized training in office skills and effective use of standard office software is highly desirable.
License and/or Certificates Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and safe driving record may be required for assignment to some positions in the classification.

A proven track record of delivering high-quality, error-free products with tight deadlines;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Demonstrated skills in working with and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook;
Effectively handle multiple projects and constantly shifting priorities;
Excellent administrative, organizational and research skills with the ability to follow through and exercise independent judgment;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently; and
Knowledgeable in invoice processing procedures.
