Under general direction, monitors, assesses, and advises the LACOE Head Start and Early Learning Division and its delegate agencies in the application of, and compliance with, local, state, and federal regulations in the delivery of support services for children with challenging behavior and their families enrolled in the Early Head Start, Head Start, and/or grant programs and acts as an advocate for children with challenging behavior.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Functional behavioral assessment and developing and implementing behavioral support plans for children in early childhood education
  • provider programs
  • Methods in assessing and evaluating the quality and delivery of educational services to children with behavioral challenges
  • Evidence-based approaches of interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Early intervention and special education curricula, trends, and laws (e.g., Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Title 22), Head Start Performance Standards and related federal legislation, and Head Start Act
  • Current ADA cases and practices as related to children with disabilities
  • Techniques and resources utilized in assessing and evaluating special education needs of children
  • Human development including cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in infancy, childhood and adolescence
  • Ethics in relation to child and family behavioral services
  • Adult learning styles and staff development and in-service methods and techniques
  • Community resources including family support services, emergency and crisis services, and child protective services
  • Cultural differences that influence parenting skills and family environments
  • Data collection techniques
  • Applicable computer hardware and software as related to report writing, record keeping, and analysis

    • Required Education and Experience

        Education: A bachelor's degree in behavioral health, special education, early education, educational psychology, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

        Experience: Three years of experience administering and/or coordinating child and/or family behavioral services in a multi-disciplinary setting, including two years of experience in administering or coordinating behavioral services in a Head Start or similar early childhood education program providing services to families in poverty.

        Additional Requirements: A master's degree is preferred. A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required.
