Description

Provides vision and leadership for the Planning, Development and Facilities Department. Provides fiscal and operational oversight for capital construction projects funded by bond measures and other sources. Ensures that the Planning, Development and Facilities department meets the highest standards of design, construction, and appropriateness for the educational activities they are meant to foster; that all new educational facilities are constructed in a manner consistent with the highest standards of efficiency, safety, economy, and quality; and that students will be provided with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, and functional. Plans, organizes, and supervises the District Energy Conservation Program.

Plans, implements, organizes, and administers the district's facility renovation, modernization, and new construction, including analyzing needs and recommending building programs and priorities.

Is responsible for operational oversight of the district's Energy Conservation
program.

Coordinates and complies with State agency requirements during the planning and execution of site selection, design and construction phases including the California Department of Education, Division of the State Architect, Office of Public School Construction, State Fire Marshall, Department of Toxic Substances Control, State Allocation Board and Director of Industrial Relations.

Coordinates the planning for facility renovation, modernization, and new construction projects with the Director, Facility and Support Operations, to ensure the compatibility of new or renovated facilities with existing structures.

Coordinates activities associated with the construction of new schools and additions to existing schools, renovation of and improvements to existing structures and temporary classroom buildings, moving and demolition of buildings, use of existing facilities, and other matters related to school facilities.

Provides technical expertise and information to the Chief Business and Financial Officer regarding assigned functions and participates in the formulation of policies, procedures and programs; advises the Chief Business and Financial Officer of unusual trends or problems and recommends appropriate corrective action.

Employment Standards

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and experience is:

Five years of successful school district or public agency experience in some phase of architecture, construction, or facilities management.

License or Certificate: 

Positions in this classification require the use of personal transportation, and the possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.  Also, the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.

Desirable:

Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
