The City of Glendora, due to a recent retirement, is seeking a highly skilled professional with a proven background in Municipal Finance for the position of Accounting Supervisor to join our award winning Finance Department team!

The ideal candidate will have technical experience with Sunguard Finance Plus (previously Pentamation), be energetic, and have a forward thinking attitude.  We are seeking a team leader and player with a sense of enthusiasm and positive energy to supervise critical layers within the Finance Department.  If you enjoy a challenge and thrive in a fast paced, fluid environment we invite your application!

Under general direction, supervises, plans and coordinates the activities and operations of a division of the Finance Department; coordinates assigned activities with other departments, outside agencies and the general public; provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Accounting Manager, Assistant Finance Director and to the Finance Director/City Treasurer; performs related duties as required.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with major coursework in public or business administration, accounting or a related field; at least three years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting work preferably in local government, financial management and budgeting, including one year of supervisory experience. At least one year experience in computerized local governmental accounting, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

 

Knowledge and Skill Level:

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal administration, governmental accounting, auditing, budgeting, purchasing, payroll, utility billing, cashiering, treasury, investments, accounts receivable, accounts payable, business license; computer applications in administrative functions; pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to public finance and accounting; principles of research, statistical analysis and report preparation; general office procedures; operation and care of general purpose computer equipment; working knowledge of City policies and procedures; principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation; economic/business cycles and interest rate forecasting; knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

 

Selection Process:
