Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in technology, multimedia, and/or related subject matter areas; assists teachers in maintaining student academic skills while in a computer lab, classroom, and/or library setting; monitors and reports student progress.

CURRENT VACANCIES: Various part-time vacancies, both permanent and substitute/temporary, exist throughout the District at elementary schools. Positions in this classification are 3 hours per day and 9.25 months per year.
SALARY: Listed salary rates represent the first and last steps of the salary range. All new employees start at the first step. Substitute/temporary employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only ($13.08). Permanent employees may earn higher rates upon successful completion of the probationary period (step 2 after 130 days of paid service) and may receive merit increases each year up to the maximum amount (step 9 after 7 1/2 years).

-Tutors individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher and providing assistance to students with technology (including computer hardware/software), multimedia, and/or library related subject matter. -Prepares lessons as directed by the teacher and evaluates students according to established guidelines. -Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior. -Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating technology related and audio-visual equipment, operating education computer equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies. -Assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance. -Assists students with technology related equipment including computer hardware/software. -Confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs. -Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations. -Directs group activities of students as assigned. -Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. -Performs related duties as assigned.
Education: Consistent with related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards: The equivalent of graduation from high school and one of the following*: 1. One year of experience at the level of GUSD Education Assistant II or Library Assistant. 2. Completion of at least two years of study (48 semester units or 60 quarter units) at an institution of higher education. 3. Attainment of an Associate of Arts degree or higher.
Additionally, completion of coursework at an accredited institution of higher education in child development, education, and/or psychology is desirable.
*Verification of college units and/or degrees are required.
Experience: -Some experience working with children in an organized setting preferably with the use of a computer and other technologies including multimedia devices. -Any other combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered.
Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
License: Positions in this classification require the use of personal transportation, and the possession of a valid California Class C driver's license. Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.

A review of applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of top-qualifying applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination may include a written test and/or a technical project, and will include a technical qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process.
Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position. New employees start at the first step. The last step (maximum) is generally reached after 7 1/2 years of successful job performance.
