The City of Torrance is seeking an experienced, organized and customer-service oriented Program Coordinator to be the Farmers' Market Assistant Manager. Under direction, the Assistant Manager will work with the Farmers' Market Manager in the coordination and the promotion of the day-to-day activities of the City's Farmers' Markets and Community Gardens programs.
Hours: The Program Coordinator must be able to work on Tuesdays and Saturdays, beginning at 6:00 a.m. on those days. This position will be required to work flexible hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of one year of coursework within a recreation-related specialty, fine arts, or a related field, or one year of specific and substantial full-time experience which prepares one to function in this position may be substituted for the required year of education.
Related part-time experience will be credited in proportion to the average amount of time worked per year.
License and/or Certificates A valid Class C California Driver's License
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate, in addition to the minimum requirements, will possess:
At least one year of recent experience working at a Certified Farmers' Market or coordinating a large public event;
Ability to handle cash payments, count change, and reconcile cash reports;
Proven success in managing projects and programs;
Responsive to shifting priorities;
Creative problem solving skills and ability to multitask;
Strong organizational skills;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including frequent contact with a diverse community;
Exceptional customer service;
Highly enthusiastic; and
Interest in food production, gardening, sustainability, and community.
