JOB DESCRIPTION: Under supervision, performs physical, chemical and microbiological analyses on water, wastewater, and related samples with emphasis on organic chemistry and sample preparation. Sample preparation involves the use of EPA approved methods and extraction techniques. Other analytical responsibilities include pH, free/total chlorine, and microbiological testing based on the needs of the laboratory. Other responsibilities include preparing reagents, purchasing, inventory of supplies and glassware preparation when needed. Position uses computers for sample processing, instrumentation operations, and LIMS data entry functions.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or related field required. Bachelors Degree preferred. Must have two (2) years of related laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Knowledge of:
Knowledge of EPA 500 series methods for Drinking Water analysis
Organic Sample preparation techniques: liquid/liquid and solid phase extraction, microsyringe techniques, evaporation, derivatization and sample transfer
Routine microbiological monitoring
Good Laboratory Practices – proper documentation and maintain a neat work area.
Safe handling of chemical reagents/laboratory waste
Skills in:
Good time management – must be able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Using computers and related software application, preparing reports and quality control charts
Supplemental Information
Schedule: 9/80 with every other Friday off. 7:00am – 4:30pm. However, must be able to work additional hours and weekends when required.
Salary Range: $27.30 - $34.13 per hour
