     The Sanitation Districts are currently recruiting to fill an Hourly- Information Technology Technician I, II, III position in the Facilities Planning Department. 

THE SANITATION DISTRICTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY:

LOCATION: 
     FACILITIES PLANNING DEPARTMENT, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECTION, CUSTOMER SERVICES GROUP, JOINT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE, WHITTIER
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
      To participate in the technical operation, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of computer hardware and software and related peripheral equipment.
 
NOTE:  Primary assignment will be for Desktop Support with Helpdesk Support as secondary or as deemed necessary.
 
JOB SUMMARY: 
     Under the general supervision from a Supervising Information Technology Technician and technical guidance from a Senior Information Technology Technician, the incumbent will install, operate, test, maintain, and repair desktop computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment; troubleshoot hardware and software malfunctions to identify and resolve breakdowns and performance problems; respond to computer related inquiries from users; provide on-site and remote user support; maintain records of problems and resolutions using the Districts' service ticketing system; participate in meetings with vendors regarding information technology products; test, diagnose and repair specialized computer equipment; coordinate the repair and/or replacement of computer equipment with users and vendors; identify areas of improvement and make recommendations; configure and ensure the proper operation of workstations, printers, scanners, operating systems, and software; review computer software requirements and provide recommendations; instruct and train users in appropriate technology usage; receive new computer hardware deliveries; perform quality assurance on new hardware; assist in maintaining hardware inventory; and perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

     A valid California Class C driver license -ANDfor the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN I level applicants must possess two years of experience involved in operating, installing, monitoring, testing, and maintaining computer network systems in the area of either peripheral equipment, computer software or telecommunication systems.  Completion of 12 semester units in computer or a related information technology discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience.  For the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN II level, applicants must possess one year of experience performing duties equivalent to an Information Technology Technician I; -OR- Two years of related experience plus completion of 12 semester units in computer or a related information technology discipline.  Completion of additional coursework above 12 semester units in computer or a related information technology discipline may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.  For the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN III, one year of experience performing duties equivalent to an Information Technology Technician II.
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 
     Knowledge of personal computer architecture, peripheral and interface equipment, and software, and the interrelationship of the network infrastructure; strong communication and troubleshooting skills are highly desirable.

EXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

     The competitive selection process may cover for ALL CLASSES the knowledge of:  A wide variety of computer, peripheral, and telecommunication systems; troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair procedures for a wide variety of computer and telecommunication peripherals, interfaces, and software; electronic theory and principles; capabilities and operational procedures used in a computer helpdesk.  The ability to:  use, operate, detect and correct a wide range of problems with computer equipment and telecommunications systems with equipment, tools and software; minimize disruption and downtime when performing troubleshooting and repair tasks; read technical manuals; conduct training, monitor, install, operate and maintain equipment used in a data processing center.

SELECTION PROCESS:
      Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires will be reviewed and evaluated for relevant experience. 
     The selection process will consist of a written test weighted 40%, and an interview weighted 60%. 
     Those candidates considered to have the best qualifications will be invited to the written examination.  Candidates that score the highest on a written examination will be invited to interview. 
     Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process. 
     Prior to appointment, a thorough reference check will be conducted.
     Initial salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

NOTE:
     The individual(s) recommended for hire must undergo a job-related pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol test, a criminal records/fingerprint check, and are also subject to review of DMV records for moving violations, chargeable accidents, or more serious charges.  Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver license and details the employee's driving record.
