Description

Performs complex clerical work relating to a specific function or program requiring specialized knowledge and involving frequent and responsible contacts.  Clerical duties require the ability to perform skilled typing/keyboarding using a standard computer keyboard.

CURRENT VACANCY: One full-time position (8 hr./day, 12 mos./yr.), with full benefits, at Crescenta Valley High School.
Various opportunities also exist for on-call substitute assignments (hourly pay). 
Note: The resulting eligibility list may also be used for future vacancies in this classification during the validity period.
TYPING CERTIFICATE REQUIRED FROM ALL APPLICANTS INCLUDING DISTRICT EMPLOYEES: MINIMUM 40 NET WORDS PER MINUTE WITH 80% ACCURACY.Certificate must be attached to the on-line application. Applications without a valid certificate will be disqualified. See details on reverse side.

-Plans, schedules, and performs complex clerical work relating to the specialized function or program to which assigned.
-Conducts transactions with school personnel or the public in matters requiring a detailed knowledge, interpretation, and application of rules, procedures, policies, and precedents.
-Prepares documents based on data obtained from records and other sources and processes them in accordance with prescribed procedures.
-Compiles information for reports and transactions and assists in the consolidation and presentation of data.
-Maintains a system of files and records; establishes and maintains systems to ensure accountability and controls; enters or extracts information on or from records using a computer terminal.
-Coordinates work with Educational, Technology and Information Services in applying procedures and controls.
-Composes correspondence and prepares reports independently or from oral instructions.
-Types correspondence from rough drafts, marginal notes, verbal instructions, or recorded dictation.

Employment Standards

Minimum Requirement:
-Two years of recentincreasingly responsible clerical work which has involved skilled typing/keyboarding.
Some positions in this classification may require bilingual skills in Armenian or Spanish (speak, read, write).
-Typing Certificate: Ability to type/keyboard input accurately at a speed not less than 40 net words per minute.
-Other License or Certificate: Depending upon assignment, possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license. Ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in an additional language.

TYPING CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Applicants for positions that require typing skills must submit a typing certificate to demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements of the position. A copy of the certificate must be scanned and attached to the on-line employment application. Applications without a valid typing certificate will be disqualified. The Human Resources department will not contact candidates regarding possible problems with any certificates. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICANTS TO REVIEW THEIR CERTIFICATES TO ENSURE THE PROPER TEST WAS COMPLETED, AND THAT COMPLETE INFORMATION WITH VALID RESULTS ARE INCLUDED ON THE CERTIFICATE.
Certificates are subject to verification. Acceptable agencies are a government agency, an employment agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system. Self-administered Internet (on-line) test scores and certificates are not acceptable. Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or test results form and must clearly state the following:
1. Name of issuing agency and official emblem.
2. Address and telephone number of agency.
3. Name of applicant.
4. Date of test. The typing test must be dated within two years of the final filing date on the examination bulletin. Certificates older than two years will not be accepted.
5. Gross typing speed; net typing speed; and number of errors or percentage of accuracy.
6. Duration of test in minutes.
7. Name and signature of person certifying the results.

Examination Process

review of applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination will utilize Assessment Center techniques, which may include a written test, a technical project, and will include a qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process.
Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position. New employees start at the first step. For permanent employees, the last step (maximum) is generally reached after 7 1/2 years of successful job performance. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only.
Probationary Period: 130 days of paid service.
