Under general supervision, maintains the condition of the library shelves; shelves all returned books and materials according to standard procedures; assists library patrons as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Working independently, maintains the condition of the library shelves; shelves all returned books, periodicals, media and materials according to standard procedures and the library classification system; shelves books and library materials in designated areas.
Assists patrons with computer problems and reference questions; assists with issuing library cards, and registering patrons for library programs.
Assists customers in a courteous and respectful manner within scope of training, and responds to requests for information within the scope of authority.
Checks the library stacks to make sure they are in order by the author's name for fiction area and by Dewey Decimal call number for non-fiction area; straightens books on the shelves, bringing all book spines to the edge of the shelf for easy retrieval.
Picks up loose books within the library, processes them for in-house use count, and re-shelves them using a book cart; picks up and disposes of debris, straightens furniture and furnishings, and maintains the neat and orderly appearance of the Library.
Performs routine support tasks at opening and closing of the library, such as relocating shelving units and furnishings, setting up displays and meeting rooms for specific applications and events; retrieves books from the outdoor book deposit as needed.
Picks up and delivers books, materials, mail and supplies.
Performs basic clerical and administrative office duties, and assists supervisors as required.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and City information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and one year of experience as a Library Page.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Required Licenses or Certifications: A valid California Driver's License is required.
