DEFINITION: Provides staff support to a library manager in charge of a department-wide library service program.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS: Positions allocable to this class report to an Assistant Library Administrator and are assigned to the central administrative offices of the Library. Incumbents are responsible for providing staff support and overseeing activities related to procurement, records maintenance and the operation of an office of a department-wide library service such as Adult Services, Collection Services or Youth Services. Incumbents must exercise a knowledge of library operations, policies, and procedures and must possess good communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Handles and resolves problems regarding payroll, personnel, office services and other related administrative matters of the Library.Maintains a resource file of topics, themes and names of speakers used for the planning and staging of library special events and program series.Assists in publicizing and coordinating the planning of library service programs. Orders, loans, and maintains inventory of library materials, supplies, and equipment for a specialized library section. Contacts vendors and departmental supply personnel to resolve procurement problems regarding the purchase and delivery of library materials and services for a specialized library section.Maintains office files and records. Handles and resolves problems regarding payroll, personnel, office services and other related administrative matters of the Library. Maintains a resource file of topics, themes and names of speakers used for the planning and staging of library special events and program series. Collects information from various resources about library services and programs related to their library service specialty and prepares memos as to their availability and feasibility for use by the library. Collects and compiles various department-wide statistics and data used for the preparation of statistical reports. Oversees the department-wide distribution of newsletters and library materials related to their library service specialty. Handles and processes incoming and outgoing communications for the section such as telephone calls, mail, freight shipments, electronic mail transmissions and telefacsimile transmissions. Recommends revisions in office, clerical, and library procedures.May supervise and train para-professional and clerical library employees.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: One year's experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Library Assistant I performing routine para-professional library tasks -OR- Two years of specialized clerical or technical experience in an organized library.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
