- DUTIES
A Maintenance Assistant does unskilled manual work for the City of Los Angeles.
NOTE:
Maintenance Assistants are hired in lieu of Maintenance Laborers. Employment as a Maintenance Assistant is intended to develop skills necessary for regular full time employment with the City as a Maintenance Laborer. Upon successful completion of probation, Maintenance Assistants will be offered Charter Section 108 transfers to Maintenance Laborer.

- PREVIOUS REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
REQUIREMENTS
1. A) Current employment as an exempt Vocational Worker with the City of Los Angeles in a position that performs manual labor; or
B) One year of full-time paid experience as a Custodian with the City of Los Angeles or in a class at least at that level performing manual labor; and
2. A) Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency for Maintenance Assistant issued by the employing City department in conjunction with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the federally funded City Job Program in the Community Development Department; or
B) A letter of recommendation from the employing department which states a willingness to hire the incumbent as a Maintenance Assistant for the City of Los Angeles. Candidates who choose to file a paper application must attach the letter to the application at the time the paper application is filed. Candidates who choose to file on-line will have 7 calendar days from the on-line submission date to submit the letter. Candidates who fail to submit the letter within the time required will not be considered candidates in this examination and their applications will not be processed.(01/24/2003)(Rev.09/26/2008)

SELECTION PROCESS

The examination will consist entirely of a review by Personnel Department staff of the candidate's application to ensure that the candidate meets the minimum qualifications for the class as stated in the Requirements section of this bulletin.
NOTES:
1. Based on the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1994, you may be required to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing prior to and during employment as a Maintenance Assistant.
2. Applications are accepted subject to review to ensure minimum qualifications are met. Candidates may be disqualified at any time if it is determined that they do not possess the minimum qualifications stated on this bulletin.
3.
