CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
The one position allocable to this class typically reports to a higher level departmental manager or to the departmental medical director in the Fire Department and functions as the coordinator of departmental based programs for Fire Department employees and is responsible for managing, developing and administering health programs designed to educate employees and management to take the necessary steps for the preservation of employee health and safety as required by the California Occupational Safety and Health Act. Such activities include determination of health education needs, identification of health problems requiring specialized health education programs, establishment ofpriorities, and the planning and development of health programs to promote good health practices for employees and the public. Incumbents must possess comprehensive knowledge of occupational health nursing to promote health care services to public safety employees; advanced knowledge of current developments and trends in the field of general occupational disabilities and nursing; ability to analyze medical data; and confidentially manage employee medical information in compliance with HIPPA rules and regulations, including counseling employees on medical issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college* with specialization in occupational safety, risk management, nursing, health education, or industrial hygiene** - AND - four years of experience in the health care field in the administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of health care programs, policies, and initiatives; including experience analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems.
LICENSE:
A license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:
Part I: An evaluation of Training and Experience weighted 50% measuring professional/technical expertise of occupational health nursing, trends, and applicable local, state, and federal laws; customer service; technology application; written communication; training; and planning and coordination based upon application information and desirable qualifications/supplemental questionnaire.
Applicants must meet the Minimum Requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% on Part I in order to advance to Part II.
Part II: A multiple choice test weighted 50% measuring achievement, confidence and optimism, deductive reasoning ability, independence, influence, professional potential, and reliability.
STANDARDIZED MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

BACKGROUND CHECK:
Candidates who are extended a conditional offer of employment will be required to complete a background check, including a review of any criminal convictions, which requires a fingerprint scan. A candidate with a conviction history which has a direct and adverse relationship with the duties of the Health Program Administrator, RN, FIRE position may undergo the process for his/her conditional offer of employment to be rescinded. If rescinded, a candidate's name will be removed from the certification list pursuant to Civil Service Rule 6.04.
