Los Angeles Superior Court (LASC) is seeking dynamic, well-qualified, and highly-motivated individuals to fill the position of Application Database Administrator (Applications Development Analyst V) within its Court Technology Services department based in Los Angeles, California.

Application Database Administrator is the expert level in the classification series. Act as subject matter expert in database administration; incumbents demonstrate strong organizational skills, ability to thrive in an environment where success depends on a high degree of cross-functional collaboration; possess deep understanding of SQL Server architecture and services; extensive experience in SQL Server platform, data warehouses, PowerShell, Cloud, and replication technologies. For a detailed job description, please click here. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at time of filing:

OPTION I: One year of experience at the level of Applications Development Analyst IV working for the Los Angeles Superior Court.

OPTION II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university* with a major in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a closely related field -AND- six years of progressively responsible experience in performing business process analyses and translating functional and business requirements into design, development, installation, and maintenance of computer applications in conformance with business and technical requirements.


Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
 

No out-of-class experience will be accepted.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:
  • Hands on experience in installing, monitoring, performance tuning, providing operational services, backup and recovery for SQL Server databases (including Reporting Services, Integration Services, Analytical Services) using the current state of the art technologies such as SQL Server 2012 or higher
  • Experience in high availability technologies (Always On, log shipping etc.), failover clustering, SQL replication, SQL Mirroring and SQL Server Tools
  • Hands on experience of cloud environment, preferably Azure
  • Troubleshoot and fix production issues
  • Writes stored procedures, triggers, batch jobs, and scripts used in database management systems
  • Ability to analyze query plans, consolidate and tune databases for optimal efficiency and monitoring SQL Server
  • Manage data warehouse tools, database upgrade and migration, utilities, and backup and recovery. Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
  • Good understanding of design and implementation of database security, including encryption, creating users, roles, assigning database privileges
  • Possess and apply knowledge of operating systems, network, storage technologies, PowerShell, and virtualized environment to database administration
  • Knowledge and experience with Idera and other monitoring tools
  • Apply knowledge of new and emerging data management technologies to assist with existing database designs, data architectures, technologies, and platforms

A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

EXAMINATION INFORMATION:
PART I: Qualifying evaluation of education, training and experience based upon submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire.

PART II: An online examination, weighted 100%, assessing two professional/technical knowledge areas. No person may complete this assessment more than once every 12 months.
  • MS SQL SERVER 2012 ADMINISTRATION - covers architecture, backup and restore, command line tools and utilities, database management, graphical tools and utilities, high availability, security, and troubleshooting.
  • DATA WAREHOUSING CONCEPTS - covers big data and data warehouse appliance, business considerations, data transformation, data warehousing and data marts, design, dimensional data model, on line analytical processing (OLAP), querying and reporting/data extraction.
