Office of Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin

Los Angeles Controller Ron Galperin is the taxpayers’ watchdog at City Hall, making sure public dollars are spent efficiently and effectively. Controller Galperin oversees a team that conducts independent audits and reviews, manages City payroll and spending, prepares financial reports, pursues fraud and waste, and works to create a more transparent and accountable city for everyone.

Controller Audit Analyst/Senior Controller Audit Analyst

The City Controller’s Office is seeking skilled analysts and communicators who are passionate about developing solutions to challenging issues facing the City. The selected candidates will join a multidisciplinary team of professionals tasked with conducting in-depth reviews, audits, and special studies of City programs and identifying areas for improvement.  Controller Audit Analysts and Senior Controller Audit Analysts work in one of two sections.

Performance, Strategy and Evaluation Team – Conducts a variety of evaluation and advisory services which address important efficiency issues and emerging risks facing the City.

Financial Audit Team – Conducts financial and operational audits which assess the integrity of the City’s financial and business operations.

Our growing team is excited about building upon a culture of collaboration, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. The position provides an opportunity to engage on a variety of important topics – recently completed projects include reviews of the City’s management of a $1.2 billion bond to build homeless housing, modernizing the City’s approach to street tree maintenance, and protecting Angelenos from the growing threat of utility-caused wildfires.

The following describes the ideal candidate for the position.

  • Critical thinker who enjoys digging deep on emerging issues and excels at drawing sound conclusions from large amounts of information and data.
  • Exceptional communicator at all levels, and adept at producing clear and concise reports that distill complex concepts into an easy-to-read narrative.
  • Thinks ahead and can easily grasp the full picture.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and openness to receiving/providing detailed feedback.
  • Quick learner who is capable of working on multiple projects with tight deadlines, and skilled at prioritizing the most critical task at any given moment.
  • Builds productive working relationships with teammates, Controller staff, program managers, and elected officials.

Education/Experience Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Government, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or in a related field.  A Masters Degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, public administration, public policy, or political science, or a Juris Doctorate is preferred.
  2. Note for applicants for Financial Audit Team: Professional designation such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is highly desirable.
  3. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates for the Senior Controller Audit Analyst role must have three years of full-time paid experience evaluating business operations, program effectiveness, management controls, or allegations of fraud and abuse in accordance with professional standards.
  4. A Juris Doctorate or Masters Degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, public administration, public policy, or political science can be substituted for one year of the experience requirement.
