This is a part-time, limited service, at-will position with only an accrued paid sick leave benefit (see attached).  Employees work up to 28 hours per week Monday through Thursday.  

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, performs routine clerical and general office work of a repetitive nature and limited difficulty; must have ability to follow oral and written directions; should possess good writing skills including the correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation and be detail oriented.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

  • Sorts and files materials and documents alphabetically, numerically, and by other predetermined procedures and methods. 
  • Sorts, prepares, and routes material for mailing. 
  • Operates modern office equipment including calculator, fax, copier, and computer. May perform tasks using various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel). 
  • May perform data entry. 
  • May type routine documents, forms and labels using a computer. 
  • May assist the public over the phone and in person answering routine questions about department programs and services. 
  • May perform simple arithmetic calculations. 
  • May run errands and perform special projects for the department. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:

General office methods and techniques; Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic. 

Skills:

Keyboard (typing) at a minimum of 30 net words per minute. Proficiency with standard office equipment and personal computer software programs as required. 

Ability to:

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; read, interpret, and make routine decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ability to interface with other departments, outside agencies, and the public. Ability to follow oral and written directions and complete tasks with moderate supervision. 

Education and Experience Guidelines:
 
Qualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on the description listed above under Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, and a combination of the education and experience requirements described below. A typical way to obtain the skills, knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate from an accredited institution. 






Experience:

Office Aide I: No experience required. Office Aide II/III: At least six (6) months of general office work including work using a computer program and interacting with the general public.
 
Physical Requirements:

This position also requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard. It also requires physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in a work environment requiring no extraordinary physical strength or other special physical qualifications.

Licenses/Certificates: 

Possession of Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. 

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old. 

Must possess the ability to work in a standard office environment and travel to different sites and locations

Selection Process:

Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an oral board interview.

Prior to appointment to the position, the selected candidate must successfully complete the preemployment process which includes a background check (fingerprinting / live scan), employment references and physical.
