The City of Buena Park is looking for a Mailroom Assistant to join our "small but mighty" Human Resources Department which prides itself on exceptional service. This part-time position works approximately 15-20 hours per week and requires the availability to work Monday through Thursday.
Under the general supervision, organizes, prepares, weighs, and distributes internal and external mail; makes copies; binds and cuts items; orders and replaces paper and meter supplies; and does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is a part-time, non–benefited, position working 10-20 hours per week. This position provides an opportunity for incumbents with an interest in pursuing a career in municipal government to learn about municipal government functions and gain experience by completing tasks and special assignments related to the program area.

- Operates and maintains reprographic machines and related print shop and mailing equipment.
- Provides general clerical support for the department.
- Performs receptionist, clerical, customer service, and records management duties.
- Types, processes, distributes, and files confidential documents.
- Assists with special projects.
- Makes copies of various items as needed for all departments.
- Binds and cuts print stock items for all departments.
- Orders and replaces paper and metering supplies.
- Organizes and distributes internal and external mail.
- Weighs and stamps external mail with appropriate postage.
- Adds funds to mail meter.
- Makes tabs for various books.
- Stuffs mass mailers for requesting departments.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES
Knowledge of:Basic operation of reprographics and mail room equipment; mail routing and distribution procedures; postal rates and metering requirements; photocopying, binding, and cutting procedures; office administration practices and procedures; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; record keeping and filing techniques; effective customer service techniques.
Ability to:Accurately organize, sort, and prepare inbound and outbound mail for delivery purposes; operate postal scale and meter; organize and complete copy and print shop orders; follow instructions; lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds safely; organize and maintain office records and specialized files; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate and maintain office, reprographics, and postal metering equipment; maintain the confidentiality of sensitive personnel matters and documents; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and the general public.
