• Diagnose, troubleshoot, install, repair, maintain, overhaul, and adjust a wide variety of stand alone and network technology tools such as computer hardware, software and peripherals, telephone and telecommunications equipment, classroom technologies, smart boards, and related equipment. E
• Install, configure and maintain local and wide area network equipment including file services, workstations, hubs, routers, switches, drives, CD-ROMS, printers, cabling and other system applications and hardware; assist in software and database support and network backups. E
• Provide on-site and remote customer support to maintain efficient operations of technology operations throughout the district; provide training and instruction to faculty and staff to ensure proper use of technologies as needed. E
• Maintain current knowledge of technological advancements and developments in the information technology field. E
• Detect and repair or remove viruses, adware, spyware and other malicious software using anti-virus and spyware removal software and other standard methods for removal. E
• Retrieve and recover data from crashed or damaged hard drives using data recovery software or other tools. E
• Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, assuring that school –site educational priorities and processes will not be interrupted; prioritize emergency calls, determining safety hazards and methods and procedures for their correction; plan, organize and lay out assigned tasks; estimate labor, time and material costs; schedule outside repairs for equipment under warranty and/or contract. E
• Perform related administrative support duties such as maintaining records and preparing reports on work completed; assist in maintaining equipment and property records. E
• Participate in the evaluation and testing of hardware and software for business and school technologies; assist in the development and review of bid specifications; make recommendations regarding purchasing hardware, software, telecommunications, alarm systems and other technology tools; evaluate and recommend the disposal of damaged and/or obsolete items. E
• Assist with special projects as requested.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Information Systems Technician performs the full range of professional-level duties associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of the Districts expansive and diverse technologies, including personal computer hardware, software and peripherals, specialty classroom technologies, intrusion alarm systems, telephone and telecommunications systems and related equipment. Employees in this classification provide customer service, training and support to central office and school sites throughout the district on a regular and as-needed basis.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
Materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of a variety of computer, alarm, and phone systems.
Tools, equipment, practices and methods of diagnostics, installation, adjusting and repairing computer systems, peripherals, classroom technologies, fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems
Basic electrical and electronic theories and principles.
General components and capabilities of network hubs, switches, routers, servers and cabling.
Network operations including hardware and software.
System procedures and terminology.
Operation of various computer components.
Personal computer and server operating systems including LANs and WANs.

Ability to:

Education and Training
Associate of Arts/Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics, Business Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field is required.
Experience
Three years of experience in the repair of computer equipment and peripherals including basic microcomputer operations. Microsoft and Novell Certification desirable.
Any other combination of skills and/or experience, which demonstrates the applicant, is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
1. Valid California driver's license. Positions in this class are required to travel and work at multiple district sites on a regular basis.
2. American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid and CPR certificates are required within 6 months of appointment.

APPOINTMENT
In accordance with Education Code Section 45301, an employee appointed to this class must serve a probationary period of six (6) months during which time an employee must demonstrate at least an overall satisfactory performance. Failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination.
