SUMMARY

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), operator of the METROLINK Commuter Rail System, is seeking a Temporary Special Services Employee (SSE) who will support Metrolink's digital communications efforts during peak commute times. This position will be responsible for responding to questions on social media during incidents and assist in categorizing and monitoring social media comments for reporting. This is a temporary part-time position, less than 19 hours per week, with shift options of 5:00 AM - 8:30 AM or 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be interpreted as a complete list of responsibilities.

  • Respond to questions posted on social media for trip planning assistance, marketing questions, ticket pricing inquiries.
  • Provide customer service support and help resolve customer concerns and complaints.
  • Categorize and monitor social media comments for reporting.
  • Consult with internal and external parties to monitor incidents, situations, and trends to reduce negative exposure and liability.
  • Collect, analyze, monitor data and information for report preparation and presentations to executive leaders.
  • Convey technical railroad terminology in clear and easy to understand customer focused messages.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of (3) years of work experience in a position with similar duties or in a customer service or communications position with experience using electronic messaging as a major part of the job duties.
  • A combination of training, education and or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered when determining minimum qualifications.  Advanced relevant coursework may also substitute for a portion of required experience.
  • A valid Class "C" California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record of no more than 3 moving violations and no DUI's within the last 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Communications or a related field preferred.
  • Communications experience using electronic messaging preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Social media outlets and content management systems

Skilled in:
  • Strong and effective organization and time management
  • Microsoft Office
  • Strong and effective communication, both verbal and written

Ability to:
  • Translate railroad terminology into customer focused message
  • Formulate concise and clear written materials
  • Forecast impact to rider during service disruptions
  • Work less than 19 hours per week, with a shift between 5:00 AM - 8:30 AM or 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM.
  • Work remotely from the office.

Physical Requirements
  • Transition between standing, walking and sitting at varying lengths of time
  • Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Use hands to finger, handle, feel and grasp tools to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to lift, hold and move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Hear and perceive the nature of sounds
  • Listen and express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words
  • Visual acuity
 
Working Conditions
Position requires work in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, or temperature. Based on job duties, work may also be conducted in outdoor environments, at construction sites, railroad track and right-of-way environments, and warehouse environments, with possible exposure to individuals who are hostile or irate, moving mechanical parts, and loud noises (85+ decibels, such as trains, heavy trucks, construction, etc.).
