Essential Job Duties

Under general direction and supervision by the Resident Services Administrator, and in collaboration with the Probation Department, local law enforcement and social service agencies, the Youth Services Specialist provides case management services to a minimum of 50 at-risk/probation youth and their families at the Carmelitos Housing Development. Services include, but are not limited to:
  • Client intake and assessments,
  • Prepare case plans, and monitor progress for all clients;
  • Provide resource information and referrals to off-site programs, as necessary, and
  • Monitor client participation and progress through home and school visits.
  • Maintain case files, records and documentation for program evaluation.
  • Research available community resources to develop and implement drug and gang intervention, education, employment, health and/or other pro-social activities for at-risk/probation youth.
  • Conduct education/community outreach and recruitment for at-risk/probation youth and their families.
  • Prepare and submit monthly client progress reports and input data into the  Resident Services Program Tracking System.
The ideal candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with diverse cultures and backgrounds.  Must have experience with youth intervention and prevention techniques and developing/implementing intervention programs.  Youth Services Specialist must have the ability to multi-task, perform well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; work independently with minimal supervision, but work effectively with a team, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
 
Candidates must be available for evening and weekend work and  must be available for a flexible work schedule.

Knowledge of and ability to leverage community resources in the areas of education, employment and youth development is essential.
 

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or related fields and three (4) years of responsible case management experience working with at-risk youth and low-income families in intervention programs. A Master's degree in the related fields can substitute for one (1) year of work experience.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to multi-task, perform well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but work effectively as a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain case files, records and documentation for program evaluation.
  • Experience with youth intervention and prevention techniques and developing/implementing intervention programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desired.

Additional Information

Office space is  provided at the Carmelitos Housing Development.
 

Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
