Job Summary

Under the direction of the CFO, this position is responsible for providing specialized support on long-term strategic and financial planning matters, as well as administrative and operational support on various confidential projects. This position will support the CFO by performing a variety of tasks as a member of the Finance Department's Executive Unit, including drafting and editing written correspondence, reports, and memos, providing financial reporting, accounting, and forecasting support, and taking the lead on various special research projects to inform future policies, best practices, and procedures within the Finance Department.
 

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate with the CFO and Director of Finance on long-term financial planning
  • Compare anticipated and actual results of various financial policies and transactions to identify areas for improvement
  • Contribute to the Budgeting process (both for Departments and for Projects)
  • Prepare cost projections of various proposed courses of action to inform the decision-making process
  • Research historical financial data of the Department to better inform present and future policies, practices, and procedures
  • Manage special projects for the CFO; support and coordinate projects with other Departments as needed
  • Conduct and compile research on other relevant program and organizational structure models (and best practices) to derive potential policy and procedural improvements
  • Research for and prepare policy briefings, memos, presentations, and proposals for high-level meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Draft and edit various documents, including correspondence and testimony
  • Participate in both internal and external meetings, taskforces, and workgroups
  • Facilitate the flow of communications to and from the CFO, and handle the logistics of meetings between the CFO and high-level external stakeholders
  • Work with the Administrative Coordinator and other administrative support staff within the Finance Department to manage Department workflow and organizational stability
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned and requested

  • Understanding of GAAP, GASB, FASB, and 2.CFR.200 rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience with Financial and Statistical software
  • Understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP)
  • Familiarity with finance databases, data entry, and data retrieval
  • Confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information or conducting sensitive tasks or projects
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and in a team environment
 
 

Training & Experience

Requires 5 years of experience as a Financial Analyst, Special Assistant, or similar role, as well as a bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University (a Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred.) A Master's Degree in one of the above fields, or an equivalent combination of additional education and/or training, may be substituted for one the required years of experience on a year-to-year basis. A background or experience in the public sector and/or a Finance Department is preferred. A relevant certification (such as a CFA or CPA) is considered a plus (but is not required.)

Salary Range
$66,310 - $96,150 Annually
Appointments are typically made between the minimum and the midpoint of the range, depending on qualifications.
