Under general supervision, the Librarian I perform a wide range of professional librarian work including, but not limited to: reference and reading guidance for adults; print and electronic materials selection; program planning and presentation; technology assistance and troubleshooting; community outreach. The focus for this position is on outreach, program development, and materials selection that is relevant to the Asian community of Alhambra.
Essential Job Functions
Provide specialized professional assistance to patrons at public service desks; answer factual ready- reference questions and fills in-depth research requests; assists patrons in the effective use of library materials and equipment; participates in collection development including maintenance of assigned subject areas. Assist patrons with basic computing tasks and troubleshooting computing equipment; develops appropriate programming that is of value and interest to the community; perform collection maintenance in assigned areas, perform materials and service analyses, serve as a member on the strategic planning committee. Will be cross trained in all areas of public services.
Qualification Guidelines
Education/Experience:Graduated from an ALA accredited master's library program with a master's degree in Library Science, Library Information Science, Information Science, or a closely related field. Strong customer service experience.
Knowledge of:Experience in public library environment, working with reference materials, cataloging, programming, and outreach.
Ability to:Multitask effectively. Experience with basic personal and office computing equipment. Bilingual (speaking, reading, and writing) in Mandarin Chinese.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
Selection Process:
Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications appropriate background and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. Successful candidates must achieve a minimum passing score in each of the test components. Applicants will be notified by email as to the test date, time and location. The examination process will include an oral interview weighted at 100%.
Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as a part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.
