The Library and Information Services Department is looking for an energetic, creative and passionate individual to join our team of librarians. The position would be for 10 hours per week; Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts only.   The Pasadena Public Library provides an array of services to all age groups, and is a source of information and learning that fosters dynamic, healthy communities. Essential Functions

  • Assist the public in the effective use of library facilities, equipment, services and other resources.
  • Respond to a variety of general and complex inquiries via, telephone, personal computer or in-person.
  • Perform research and reference assistance by assessing a broad range of resources including printed material, online databases, and other authoritative resources.
  • Provide professional readers' advisory services to the public in-person and online.
  • Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services.
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing library procedures and work processes.
  • Stay current with emerging library practices and technologies.
  • Prepare and update program documentation, user procedures and instructions.
  • Develop resource lists, subject/materials guides and promotional displays.  
  • Extend the library's reach into the community through collaborative partnerships and outreach programs and services.
  • May train, evaluate and direct the activities of assigned staff.
  • May be temporarily assigned broader supervisory and/or lead responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Librarian or other Person In Charge.

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance. Example combinations include: Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science; an equivalent combination of library experience, education and/or training may substitute for the Master's Degree, such as graduation from a four year college or university plus 24 semester units of library science.
The selection process will consist of a training and experience evaluation, interview panel, and department-level interviews.

Probationary work period is one year.

There is currently one vacancy in the Libraries and Information Services Department with an emphasis on Public Services which may be filled as a result of this examination process.

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
