SUMMARY

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), operator of the METROLINK Commuter Rail System, is seeking a Temporary Special Services Employee (SSE) - Marketing Coordinator who will provide planning, coordination, implementation and supervision of a variety of marketing activities. This position is responsible for the coordination of marketing and advertising revenue programs, events, creative production and special train marketing programs, and marketing partnerships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be interpreted as an exhaustive list of responsibilities.

  • Plan and implement programs and projects to increase knowledge and ridership on public transportation.
  • Perform staff support work responsible for promoting Authority ridership and communicating with SCRRA customers.
  • Work with internal departments and external agencies in the development of marketing materials, including website, email, and social media content. Ensures consistency of communications across all channels.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and clear communications across all media, including advertising materials and promotional items.
  • Coordinate and implement internal and external communication for event programs and marketing partnerships.
  • Track, report and present progress on all new and event marketing programs and marketing partnerships.
  • Compile data from various reports and update ridership and revenue figures for event marketing programs and marketing partnerships.
  • Foster strategic relationships and partner with project stakeholders, inter-departmental staff, agencies and vendors, when necessary.
  • Coordinate projects for destinations and events/marketing opportunities, working with various departments, and may staff SCRRA booths at special events.
  • Respond to public inquiries and customer service issues.
  • Assist with ticket information to external customers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised and Received
  • Receives general oversight from departmental management and supervisory level roles.
  • No formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a field with emphasis on customer communications skills.
  • A minimum of (5) years of work experience in marketing communications and/or customer relations management, working in a team-focused environment.
  • A combination of training, education and or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered when determining minimum qualifications.  Advanced relevant coursework may also substitute for a portion of required experience.
  • A valid class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record of no more than three moving violations and no DUI's within the last three years

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Salesforce.com or a similar customer relationship management database
  • The Request for Proposal (RFP) process
  • Principles and practices of advertising, marketing, public relations and public affairs
  • Content management systems including Salesforce
  • Basic design programs knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

Skilled in:
  • Use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Evaluating and analyzing effectiveness of marketing programs and activities
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication, including presentation skills

Ability to:
  • Meet tight time constraints and deadlines
  • Prioritize and expedite multiple requests
  • Adapt and keep up with last minute changes and requests
  • Follow strict guidelines
  • Work in teams and collaborate with different styles and personalities
  • Think creatively and organize new ideas
  • Work occasional weekends for off-site events as necessary

Physical Requirements
  • Transition between standing, walking and sitting at varying lengths of time
  • Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Use hands to finger, handle, feel and grasp tools to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to lift, hold and move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Hear and perceive the nature of sounds
  • Listen and express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words
  • Adjust visual focus
 
Working Conditions
Position requires work in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, or temperature. Based on job duties, work may also be conducted in outdoor environments, at construction sites, railroad track and right-of-way environments, and warehouse environments, with possible exposure to individuals who are hostile or irate, moving mechanical parts, and loud noises (85+ decibels, such as trains, heavy trucks, construction, etc.).
