DEFINITION:
Under direct supervision, analyzes, designs, evaluates, develops, codes, tests, and maintains application systems.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Incumbents in this entry level position assist higher level Application Developers in the analysis, development, and testing of program logic for a small system or a component or module of a system. Assistant Application Developer positions require an understanding of basic technology concepts. They code, test, and debug simple programs in one or more languages, working from program specifications. The Application Developer Series is distinguished from the Information Systems Analyst Series in that Application Developers perform programming duties and are required to have programming knowledge and experience. Assistant Application Developer positions are distinguished from Application Developer I positions in that Assistant Application Developers work primarily on low-complexity software under direct supervision.

Essential Job Functions

Using established procedures, codes, tests and debugs simple application programs, software components, and interfaces or modifies existing low-complexity software according to specifications.
 
Using established procedures, performs unit or modular testing.

Prepares technical documents, user manuals, and help files.
 
Assists in analysis, recording, tracking, and resolution of application problems. 
 
Codes and executes programs to extract, transform, and load data for simple system conversions.

Programs software utilizing the C# or Java programming Languages.
 
Installs application software.
 
Modifies existing software to correct errors, allows it to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance.

Requirements

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
Option I*:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field. -OR-

Option II:  One (1) year of recent** full-time*** experience in coding, testing, and debugging one or more application systems.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 - Light.
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*To qualify under Option I, applicants must submit a legible copy of the official diploma or official transcripts, or official letter from the accredited institution registrar office which shows the area of specialization, at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days from the date of application filing.

Recent means experience obtained in the last three (3) years. 

***Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 40-hour workweek.  Work performed part-time will be  prorated on a month-for-month basis.
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in developing applications in C# or Java. 
Experience in developing ASP.NET web applications. 
Experience in writing queries for SQL Server. 
Experience in using source control software.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
An Interview Examination will assess education, training, experience, and general knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the position weighted 100%.
 
NOTE: Only candidates meeting the Selection Requirements will be invited to the interview examination.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the Structure Interview examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly. The names of the candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) month following the date of promulgation. 

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

AVAILABLE SHIFT
Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
